2021’s Chalk it Up festival was a “hybrid” event – sponsors and artists could return to Fremont Park to resume the old routine, or choose to do their work away from the park, similar to 2020’s event.
Getting back to the park – with the live music, onlookers, people-watching, and all the other art – was enticing. I missed it last year. But I wasn’t yet comfortable getting back into what would almost certainly be a massive crowd, and I wanted to make things easy on myself, so I opted to do this year’s art in the same location as last year.
This spot isn’t in anyone’s way for walking/jogging, and it’s so close to my house that I am able to run home if I found I’ve forgotten anything. Plus, the concrete is smoother, and makes for a much easier application of chalk.
So this year I kept the inspirational messaging from last year rolling, with a kid in a grocery-store rocket ship ride, dreaming of space. His dog is there to keep him company!
