Quick Info
- Created with Game Maker 6.1 – 320 x 240 full screen
- Project work time: January 2, 2005
Description
Fishin’ was originally coded as a turn-based game for my TI-86 calculator. This was my attempt to revive the idea with Game Maker, and with the use of a couple of water textures I had made previously for use in my 3D modeling program, trueSpace 5, the game looked somewhat promising.
The engine for this demo was not too challenging to put together, as it uses modified code from some other projects I’d been playing with, but the task of building it into a full-fledged game seemed too monumental a task for the small demographic who would truly enjoy the game. I am, of course, saving all the tiles and animations from this game for the future though, just in case I need them for another project.
Interesting Facts
- The original version of the game, as well as this one, is loosely based on the board game, Fishin’ Time, by Distinctive Games. My brother and I used to spend hours playing this game, and though we had to change the rules a little bit to make the game more fun, it made for a pretty fun time. I still think the game would make an excellent video game if tweaked right.
- The water texture used in this demo was originally created for use in 3D modeling, and works great as a bump map for water. Each frame features 3 different layers of texture, hand placed. The animation is 200 images long, and took about an hour to put together once the original file was set up correctly.
