Inktober 2023 #27: Beast

Here's my Inktober illustration for today's prompt, "beast"!

I thought it'd be nice to have our beast just be a dude who ran out of coffee. The poor barista. 😔

This one started in one place and finished in a slightly different place, but I like how it turned out. The square canvas made the composition get a little boring near the bottom, but that doesn't take away from it too much.

As always, this was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup brush for linework, and the Medium Splatter, Fat Nozzle, and Burst spray paint brushes for background texture.

Inktober 2023 #26: Remove

Here's my twenty-sixth illustration for Inktober 2023. The prompt for this one was "remove".

This was sort of a last-minute idea that I had, and I'm a little indifferent about how it came out. I don't hate the depth of it, or the character of the creatures being farmed, but maybe it would've been better with more of them? Who knows. This was just one of those drawing that needed to get done. 😅

Somewhere from the depths of my mushy brain, this was loosely inspired by the games Limbo and World of Goo.

As usual, this was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup and Inka brushes for linework and blocking out shapes, and the Medium Nozzle spray paint brush for texture.

Inktober 2023 #25: Dangerous

Fancy a drink? 😆 Here's my Inktober illustration for today, for the prompt "dangerous".

I wanted to do something simple, but the lighting and transparency ended up making it kind of complex anyway. My left hand served as a model once more, and through the magic of drawing, I conjured up a dangerous-looking potion.

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup brush for linework, and the Medium Nozzle spray paint brush for a little background texture.

Inktober 2023 #24: Shallow

For today's Inktober prompt, "shallow", I drew a frog sitting in some shallow water. 🐸

As always, this was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Inka and Syrup brushes for linework and blocking out shapes, the Soft air brush and Medium Nozzle spray paint brush for shading, and the Splatter and Flicks spray paint brushes for texture.

Inktober 2023 #23: Celestial

Here's my Inktober illustration for today's prompt, "celestial". I spent all day brainstorming this one, and eventually thought I might pick one of the constellations and draw it in some weird way... but I couldn't settle on any of them, and then this idea popped into my head.

I didn't want to draw an astronaut. I didn't want to draw hands. I didn't want to draw foreshortened hands, arms, and legs. The idea was too good though, so I did it anyway - and I really like how it turned out!

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup brush for linework, the Medium Nozzle spray paint brush for shading, and the Tarraleah brush for the background mask.

Inktober 2023 #22: Scratchy

This is my twenty-second illustration for Inktober, for the prompt "scratchy".

I didn't have much time to work today, so had to do something a bit basic. Plus, I didn't really like the prompt. Just how it goes, unfortunately!

As usual, this was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Inka brush for linework, the Medium Nozzle spray paint brush for shading, and the Splatter and Flicks spray paint brushes for background texture.

Inktober 2023 #21: Chains

Today's Inktober prompt was "chains", so for my illustration, I drew a ubiquitous coffee chain. If you're driving and you miss one, just hit the next! ☕

That's three weeks down for Inktober, by the way - it's going by so fast this year!

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup brush for linework, and the Medium Nozzle spray paint brush for shading and texture.

Inktober 2023 #20: Frost

This is my drawing for today's Inktober. The prompt was "frost". This one took me about 2 hours to complete, and I spent all but about 5 minutes doing everything but the frost. I'm happy the effect looks okay and that the window didn't need a lot of work because I didn't really think about it much until the end. 😬

Not really sure how I feel about it overall. It turned out close to how I envisioned it, but I had sort of hoped to have it look a little more gray/mysterious. And I didn't have the guts to try to add falling snow to it. Oh well!

As always, this was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Inka brush for shapes and linework, and the Medium Nozzle spray paint brush and Soft air brush for shading/texture.

Inktober 2023 #19: Plump

Today's Inktober prompt is "plump", and while I was brainstorming what to do, I came across another drawing challenge that had "happy capybara" as the subject. It felt like a natural fit, so I went for it. Here's a happy capybara! 😄

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup brush for linework, and the Medium Nozzle spray paint brush for shading/texture.

Inktober 2023 #18: Saddle

Here's my Inktober illustration for today's prompt, "saddle".

I struggled a bit with this one, because I just couldn't think of anything fun to do. Eventually I settled on drawing a dude on a mechanical horse, but I didn't have a plan beyond that. I like how things came together, and I am digging the way the textured Medium Nozzle spray paint brush can easily make things look mysteriously foggy.

Also, I was hesitant to put a rocket on the back of the horse, because I know it looks like a giant, gaping butthole in the sketch. But I stand by my decision. 😎

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Inka brush for linework and blocking out shapes, and the Old Beach brush, Soft air brush, and Medium Nozzle spray paint brush for shading/effects.
