Drawrch #25

Here's my twenty-fifth illustration for Drawrch!

This one had problems from the start. First, I had a hard time getting my sketch to look close to the reference image. Then I had a hard time deciding whether or not to color the lines (I chose not to, in the end). I screwed up the teeth a bit, which should include some clue that there's a bottom set. Finally, I tried and failed multiple times to get a glow on the guy's skin without making him look oily - another failed experiment.

In the end, I just ended up doing a quick gradient over large parts of the colors, which looks decent enough. I just with it could've been better.

Might be time to go back to cartoons for some of the last drawings this month!

I used the Procreate Pencil to sketch, the Syrup brush for the linework, and the soft Airbrush at the end for some highlights. The reference image was from SketchDaily.

As always, time-lapse below!

Here's my twenty-third illustration for Drawrch!

I'm keeping it simple for this one again because I've got a lot of work to do later on my iPad and I don't feel like spending a ton of time drawing on it right now.

Once again, I've used the Procreate Pencil brush for the sketch and the Syrup brush for the linework.

My twenty-second illustration for Drawrch.

As usual, I used the Procreate Pencil to sketch, but I tried a new brush this time and did my coloring with the Inka brush. I really like the rough edges it leaves - I just wish it could have gone a little bigger for the background. My goal was to create a more realistic drawing in a short amount of time though, and it really helped with that.

The reference was from SketchDaily.

Time-lapse below. If you watch the beginning closely, you'll see a few misfires I had with another drawing. The reference photo was of a woman's face at an odd angle, and I just couldn't get the proportions right.

This is my twenty-first illustration for Drawrch - that's three weeks down!

For this one, I used Procreate's Syrup brush for the lines, the soft Airbrush for a couple of fades on the character and the background, and the Hartz brush for the noise in the background. Sketched with the Procreate Pencil brush to start.

Here's my nineteenth illustration for Drawrch!

I channeled the player character from Animal Crossing for this one, a little bit.

This one was done entirely with Procreate's Syrup brush, except for the painterly swirl in the background, where I used the Old Brush to add the brush strokes.

Well, this is my eighteenth illustration for Drawrch - and I barely made it in this time. It took a lot longer than I thought it would, but there was just something about the sketch that made me want to spend more time getting it done properly.

For this one, I used Procreate's Syrup and Airbrush brushes once again. It's based on a reference image from SketchDaily.

This is my seventeenth illustration for Drawrch!

These projects really seem to pick up after the first half is done - they've been blazing by. I've been having a good time practicing my illustration skills though, and I'm thankful to have the time to work on my lines. I'll probably try to do a more realistic portrait next time, time permitting.

I always use the Procreate Pencil brush for my sketch, and I've stuck to the Syrup brush for the lines once more. I used the soft Airbrush to add some glow to the background and the lines at the end.

Anyway, and as always, time-lapse below:

This is my sixteenth illustration for Drawrch. I was watching an episode of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel while I drew it, so I guess I took some inspiration from that.

For this one, I used Procreate's Syrup brush once again, with an assist from the Hartz brush for the background splatter.
