Inktober 2026 #25: Fracture

Martin · 4 hours
A black and white drawing of an x-ray of a skull with a giant crack on the top/back. The skull is facing to the left and you can see the neck vertebrae below it. It is drawn in white over a black background with white shading here and there to make it look like an x-ray. It is not anatomically correct, and the skull appears to be grimacing, with downturned mouth and worried eye sockets. On the upper right at the top/back of the head is a fracture with many branches coming off of it. The background fades a little at the edges and there is an arrow drawn on top pointing to the crack and labelling it with "F.". At the bottom right, the number "25" has been written on the corner.

For today's Inktober illustration, I draw an x-ray of a skull with a giant fracture in the top/back. He doesn't look too happy about it. 💀

Inktober 2026 #24: Bake

Martin · 1 day
A black and white illustration of a pie cooling on a windowsill on the corner of a house. The window is open and the house is dark inside. The house has horizontal wood siding and a dark roof hangs over the top. The bottom half of the house has rocks set in concrete, and a slab of concrete goes around the house. A hose rests on the concrete on the left side of the image. On the right, the concrete meets grass, and a fence, tree, and sky can be seen in the background. A wisp of sweet pie smell wafts from the pie, disappearing off the right edge of the image. The drawing is done in the style of a cartoon background painting.

Today's Inktober prompt was "bake", so I drew a pie cooling on a windowsill, in an attempt to ape the style of an old Looney Tunes cartoon.

The backgrounds in those cartoons always looked so effortless but not in a bad way. They conveyed what they needed to in an artful/stylish manner without getting in the way of the cartoons in the foreground. I find them inspirational.

Inktober 2026 #23: Dapper

Martin · 2 days
A black and white illustration of a lizard wearing a suit. The outfit consists of a dark suit jacket with the collar popped, a light gray, pin-striped vest, a white, collared dress shirt, and a black tie. The lizard has his head up and to the right and is looking at the viewer with his right eye, which is almost completely black. The background is gray with a light glow behind the lizard.

For today's Inktober illustration, I used a mashup of references to draw a lizard wearing a suit. Pretty dapper, eh?

Inktober 2026 #22: Beacon

Martin · 3 days
A black and white illustration of an anthropomorphic lighthouse creeping across some terrain. The lighthouse is tall with large, alternating stripes and a circular railing at the top. It is bent backwards and has thin black arms and legs. Its light is shining ahead, and it is illuminating its front and the terrain in front of it. In the background is a large bay, with a chunk of land peeking in from the right. Another normal lighthouse can be seen near the edge, with its own light pointing in the opposite direction of the main lighthouse. Beyond the bay is a dark sky filled with ominous clouds.

Today's Inktober prompt, "beacon", was another tough one for me. I spent the day brainstorming ideas and sat down at my iPad figuring that I would just do something basic because I wasn't feeling particularly inspired.

I settled on drawing a lighthouse, and while I was sitting there trying to come up with a way to make it interesting, I remembered Keeper, a game recently released by Double Fine Productions. I didn't want to copy their concept completely, but I did borrow the idea of an anthropomorphic lighthouse to try to make my own.

I've actually not played the game as much as I'd wanted yet, so hopefully my illustration comes off at least a little unique. 😊

Inktober 2026 #21: Hero

Martin · 4 days
A black and white illustration of a broad, disproportionate, muscley man wearing a superhero costume. The man is standing in a typical superhero pose, with feet apart, hands on hips, and chest out. The costume is a sheer, light colored material and includes a darker bottom, boots, and a cape. The man has a pale complexion, a very large cleft chin, and a coil of black hair on his head. He is smiling broadly, and his eyes are squinted shut. The costume has a large 'R' on the front, with a tiny syringe stuck in the top curve of the letter. The background is dark gray with a faint glow behind the man.

Today's Inktober prompt is "hero", and I really didn't want to draw a dude in a cape for it... but I did, because my other idea (drawing a sandwich in a cape) sounded even less fun. 😆

With that out of the way, I present 'Roid Man! He's here to do all your local hero stuff in the most pointlessly violent way possible.

That's three weeks of Inktober done!

Inktober 2026 #20: Lounge

Martin · 5 days
A black and white illustration of an air tube wave arm guy laying down on a lounge chair. The chair is long and flat, with the back up at an angle. It is dark with a light-colored cushion on top. The wavy arm guy is coming out of its fan base at the foot of the chair and laying back against the chair with the top of its head, the hair streamers, going over the edge. Its arms are laying limp to the sides, and its head is turned towards the back of the chair. It is dark gray and has a goofy smile on its face. The background is gray with a light glow in the top left.

For today's Inktober prompt, "lounge", I drew an air tube wavy arm guy taking a break on a lounge chair. All that waving around is hard work!

Inktober 2026 #19: Confused

Martin · 6 days
A black and white line drawing of a confused IKEA guy from the building instruction manuals. He is holding a hammer in one hand and a manual in the other and looking at it with a puzzled look on his face. A thought bubble with a question mark in it is coming away from his head to the right. A partly built coffin is in pieces at his feet. Like the official IKEA art, the lines are black and uniform in width. The background is white.

For today's Inktober illustration, I drew a confused IKEA manual guy trying to assemble a... coffin? Come on, it's October! 🎃

This one is regrettably a little plain, but I wanted to honor the IKEA manual art style as closely as possible. Probably would've been more fun to draw in vectors though!

Anyway, this was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching and the Studio Pen brush for everything else.

A black and white illustration of a penguin, kiwi, and emu standing together, wearing sunglasses. The penguin is in front on the left. It is an emperor penguin, and it is facing to the left. The kiwi is behind the penguin to the lower right. It is looking up into the air, but not toward the viewer. The emu is behind both other birds, above and to the center. It is facing slightly left of the viewer, and part of its body can be seeing behind the kiwi. All birds are wearing black, shiny sunglasses that are reflecting rays of light. The background is gray with a glow behind the birds.

Today's Inktober prompt was "flightless", and rather than trying to be clever about it, I decided to just draw three flightless birds. They're wearing sunglasses, of course. 😎

A black and white illustration of a giant, intricate machine. The machine towers over the ground and has a large water tank and tree grinder at the top. In the middle is a conveyor belt moving unknown objects and an exhaust pipe pumping out smoke. Near the bottom is a screen showing binary numbers and at the end of the machine on the bottom right is a mechanical hand drawing a stick figure on a piece of paper. The machine is tinted gray and the background is white.

Today's Inktober prompt was "contraption", and after thinking about it for a bit, I remembered an old poem by Shel Silverstein about a Homework Machine (which turned out to be very prescient of these modern times, by the way). It was accompanied by a drawing of a massive machine that I always loved looking at when I was younger.

My contraption is like that one: large, many silly parts, and some questionable output. 😄

Inktober 2026 #16: Gangley

Martin · 9 days
A black and white illustration of a moose with very long legs. The moose is standing angled mostly to the side, but somewhat towards the viewer, to the left. He is looking at the viewer with squinted eyes, and he looks like he has some misgivings. The moose is gray, fading to black from top to bottom. He has large, light gray antlers with many points on them. The background is a fade from light gray to near-white at the bottom, with white blades of grass drawn near the bottom.

Today's Inktober prompt was "gangly", so I drew a moose with long, gangly legs. He doesn't look too happy about it. 😅
