Inktober 2026 #28: Trophy

Martin · 1 hour (11:14 PM · Oct 28, 2026)
A black and white illustration of a mouse standing proudly, holding a large rifle at his side, with a cat's head mounted on a plaque to the side. The mouse is white and is standing with one hand on his hip and the other hand holding the barrel of the rifle, with the butt of the gun resting on the ground by his feet. He is smiling broadly, his chin is up, and his eyes are shut. The cat head is also white and has its tongue hanging out and X's for eyes. The plaque is a dark, beveled, shield shape poking out from behind the cat's head. The background is a wall with wooden baseboard and wallpaper with a faint design on it.

Today's Inktober prompt was "trophy", and I did everything I could to not draw an actual, traditional trophy. Not all trophies are symmetrical of course, but I find myself actively avoiding a lot symmetrical drawing because I get caught up in the perfection of it, and it's just not enjoyable for me, especially when I'm trying to draw something loose and fun.

So today I drew a proud mouse and his cat trophy. I feel a little sorry for the cat, but in the timeless battle between cat and mouse, sometimes the mouse has got to come out on top!

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Inka brush for linework, and the Gouache brush for shading.
