Inktober 2024 #19: Ridge

An illustration of a ridged road curving off into the distance, into the dark of night. The road has a few cars driving on it and one is close to the viewer, with headlights shining down the road going just off the edge of the image. The road is lined with bushes and trees, and a guardrail in front of a ravine to the left. The cars are stylized, with stubby bodies and tall cabs. The car closest to the viewer is orange. The next car back, just down the ridge, is blue and driving in the opposite direction. The third car is red and can be seen way in the distance, heading down the road toward the viewer. The road has bumps in it and is split by a dotted yellow line down the middle. The sky in the back is dark, with small dots of stars scattered around.

For today's Inktober illustration, the prompt was "ridge", so I stuck with the driving theme from yesterday and drew cars driving over a ridge in the road.

This was a different style for me, using familiar techniques. I can't say that I got it just where I wanted it in the end - it feels like it needs some more texture, more stylized colors, or more linework or something - but it's mostly how I envisioned it from the start.

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup brush for linework, the Inka brush for texture, and the Soft air brush for shading.

If you'd like to see how I drew this one, you can watch the time-lapse below:
