Inktober 2025 #14: Trunk

An illustration of a cartoon car, drawn tall and squished front to back. The car is parked facing away from the viewer, at a three quarters angle. The trunk is open, and a package can be seen inside. Three lines emanate from the open trunk. The car is light gray with dark gray trim, dark gray tires, and a bent antenna with a shiny antenna ball on top. The background is a dark gray, with a splotch of light gray spray paint behind the open trunk, and a darker wash behind the rest of the car. The drawing is in black and white.

Today's Inktober prompt was "trunk", and if you watch the time-lapse below, you'll see that in the earlier part of my sketch, I went big: a tree trunk holding up an open box trunk, with an elephant trunk sticking out.

When I was getting ready to start "inking" this one, I realized I could also do the trunk of a car, which I drew in the background. I had a hard time fitting it in there though, and after a little while of messing with the composition, I got a lot less ambitious and chose to just draw the car by itself. A lot less epic than the original idea, I know, but I'm feeling tired tonight and needed to get this done. 😴

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup brush for linework, and the Burst spray paint brush and Gouache brush for background texture.

If you'd like to see how I drew this one, you can watch the time-lapse below:
