Here we go again with another month-long drawing project! This one is called June Toons, and it's a revival of an old project from 2019, by the same name.

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup brush for linework, and the Splatter spray paint brush for background texture.

This is my thirty-first (and final) illustration for Drawrch 2023 - aw, yeah!

Like last year's Drawrch, I figured I'd finish things up with another self-portrait. I don't consider that last one a failure, but I didn't care for how it turned out either, so I also sort of wanted to redeem myself a bit this year. And I think I did! I'm happy with it anyway.

Perhaps I'll post more about it in the future, but I feel like I settled into a style that I didn't start with this time, and I like how it went. I do this project to explore styles and practice, so I didn't want to do all of them the same way, but I did enjoy some methods more than others, so it was hard not to lean into them a bit more.

Anyway, this was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching and the Inka brush for everything else.

The photo I used as a reference for this drawing is a selfie I took today.

Here's my twenty-eighth illustration for Drawrch!

After Drawrch #23, I swore I wasn't going to do another realistic one for this project, but after I got done with the initial sketch, I started experimenting with brushes I don't typically use, and got caught up in it.

I like going for realism and I don't. I like it because it's fun seeing something come together that looks like the reference. It's also good practice, of course. But I don't like it because it takes forever to finish a piece (at least, in terms of doing a daily drawing) and every time I get done, I can't help but look at it and see all the flaws. It's a balance.

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Oil Paint and Dry Brush brushes for color, and the Stucco brush for blending.

This is my twenty-seventh illustration for Drawrch!

I really wanted this one to be better, but I just ran out of time today. It was a busy work day, and I had a lot of other things to do after hours that left me with only an hour or so to draw. That's still a good amount of time, but late in the day when I'm tired, it doesn't leave much room for mistakes. Anyway...

As usual, this was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching and the Inka brush for everything else.

This is my twenty-sixth illustration for Drawrch!

I thought I'd try another like Drawrch #14, and though I like how this one turned out, it's a little too zoomed in now that I think about it. It would've been better to show just a little more of the beanie, and the hair/coat. Oh well!

This is my twenty-fourth illustration for Drawrch!

I feel slightly guilty about starting in with the cartoons on a Friday, but this day kind of got away from me and I wanted to make sure I got done with this early. It's good practice for drawing expressions anyway. 😉

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup brush for linework, and the Hartz brush and Splatter spray paint brush for background texture.

Here's my twenty-third illustration for Drawrch!

This one is a little bit of a departure from what has been my usual Drawrch style... but I wanted to try my hand at a more realistic shading style. I used to do drawing like this all the time about 20 years ago, but I haven't really done many since. I think it turned out alright - at least for being as out of practice as I am!

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching and the Oil Pastel brush for everything else.
