Inktober 2023 #16: Angel

Martin · 1 year

Today's Inktober illustration is for the prompt "Angel". I feel like I could've employed a whole bunch of stuff from all the art history classes I took with this one - but instead I drew this! ๐Ÿ˜…

As always, this was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup and Inka brushes for linework and blocking out shapes, and the Medium Nozzle spray paint brush for shading/texture.

The comic style for this one was heavily inspired by the art of BuฤŸra Batuhan Berah.

The photo I used as a reference for this drawing is from SketchDaily.

Inktober 2023 #15: Dagger

Martin · 1 year

I decided to lean into Halloween for today's Inktober illustration, this one for the prompt "dagger". ๐ŸŽƒ

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup, Inka, and (a modified version of the) Mercury brushes for linework and blocking out shapes, the Medium Nozzle spray paint brush and Soft airbrush for shading, and the Splatter and Flicks spray paint brushes for added texture.

Inktober 2023 #14: Castle

Martin · 1 year

Today's Inktober prompt was "castle" and, well, I didn't really feel like drawing a castle. My wife suggested doing something like a kid's pillow fort, and that gave me this idea: a kid sitting in his bedsheet fort, staying up late and reading a good book.

By the way, that's two weeks of Inktober done already - this project is flying by! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

As always, this was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Inka brush for linework, and the Medium Nozzle spray paint brush and Soft airbrush for shading/texture.

Inktober 2023 #13: Rise

Martin · 1 year

I usually struggle with these action-word Inktober prompts, but for this one I had an idea right from the start. The prompt today is "rise", and so I drew some massive stone hands rising from the ground.

My iPad got weirdly warm while I was working on this one!

Inktober 2023 #12: Spicey

Martin · 1 year

A dragon breathing fire is a little abstract for the prompt "spicey", but my son loves the book, Dragons Love Tacos, and this Inktober prompt reminded me of that. ๐ŸŒฎ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿš’

As always, this was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup and Inka brushes for linework, the Medium Nozzle spray paint brush for shading, and the Splatter spray paint brush for background texture.

Inktober 2023 #11: Wander

Martin · 1 year

This is my Inktober entry for today's prompt, "wander".

I spent a little more time on this one than I thought I would, but I had a good time making it. I really like that feeling of being in the zone, just taking a project to the end!

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Inka brush for blocking out shapes, the Medium Nozzle spray paint brush for shading, and the Flicks spray paint brush for texture.

Inktober 2023 #10: Fortune

Martin · 1 year

This is my tenth illustration for this year's Inktober event, this one for the prompt "fortune".

I like how this one turned out, although I feel like I could mess around with the shading endlessly. These black and white images always have me second-guessing my contrast and values as I work. ๐Ÿ˜…

Inktober 2023 #9: Bounce

Martin · 1 year

Today's prompt for Inktober was "bounce", and boy, I struggle with these action words. I opted to do a cartoon for this one and I still don't like how it turned out. Seems to be happening a lot with this project! ๐Ÿ˜ฃ

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup and Inka brushes for linework, the Medium Nozzle spray paint brush for shading/texture, and the Splatter and Flicks spray paint brushes for background.

Inktober 2023 #8: Toad

Martin · 1 year

With "toad" as the prompt for today's Inktober, I thought I'd make it easy on myself and draw Toad from Super Mario Bros.

Then I spent almost 2 hours drawing this! ๐Ÿฅด

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Inka brush for linework and blocking out shapes, the Soft airbrush and Medium Nozzle spray paint brush for shading, and the Splatter and Flicks spray paint brushes for texture.

Inktober 2023 #7: Drip

Martin · 1 year

Today's Inktober prompt was "drip", so here's my drawing of a rock sitting on a wall, dripping. It's October, so some of these have to be a little spooky, right? ๐Ÿ’€

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Inka brush for blocking out shapes, and the Hartz brush, and Medium Nozzle, Flicks, and Splatter spray paint brushes for texture/shading.
