Inktober 2025 #14: Trunk

An illustration of a cartoon car, drawn tall and squished front to back. The car is parked facing away from the viewer, at a three quarters angle. The trunk is open, and a package can be seen inside. Three lines emanate from the open trunk. The car is light gray with dark gray trim, dark gray tires, and a bent antenna with a shiny antenna ball on top. The background is a dark gray, with a splotch of light gray spray paint behind the open trunk, and a darker wash behind the rest of the car. The drawing is in black and white.

Today's Inktober prompt was "trunk", and if you watch the time-lapse below, you'll see that in the earlier part of my sketch, I went big: a tree trunk holding up an open box trunk, with an elephant trunk sticking out.

When I was getting ready to start "inking" this one, I realized I could also do the trunk of a car, which I drew in the background. I had a hard time fitting it in there though, and after a little while of messing with the composition, I got a lot less ambitious and chose to just draw the car by itself. A lot less epic than the original idea, I know, but I'm feeling tired tonight and needed to get this done. 😴

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup brush for linework, and the Burst spray paint brush and Gouache brush for background texture.

Inktober 2025 #13: Drink

An illustration of a water fountain spigot shooting an arc of water into an attached, circular basin. The spigot and rim of the basin have a metallic look, and the water is just barely splashing into the far end of the basin. The basin has a large drain off center, with a number of holes in it. The arc of water and spigot are casting hard shadows onto the background, which is a large white space with gray cutting in at the top and bottom left corner at different angles. The elements are outlined and presented in perspective, with the spigot being close to the viewer and very large, but the perspective is loose and slightly nonsensical, with the drain in the basin at a slight angle and a bit too large. The drawing is in black and white.

For today's Inktober prompt, "drink", I drew a drinking fountain shooting an arc of water into a basin.

This prompt was so open to interpretation, I had a hard time settling on what I wanted to do. I liked the idea of doing something like this though, a very familiar object to so many people, and it was good graphic shading practice. I tried to keep the lines and shading loose.

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching and the Syrup brush for everything else.

Inktober 2025 #12: Shredded

An illustration of a crumpled paper going through a paper shredder and the shreds coming out the other side. The paper is white and is going in long-ways. It has a happy face drawn on it, which is cut off at the middle of the mouth. The paper shredder is a very basic long, gray rectangle with a non-descript screen on the left side. The background is gray with spray paint splotches on it. The drawing is in black and white.

Today's Inktober prompt was "shredded", and I chose to go quite literal with it. It was fun working on something with a different aesthetic from my usual drawings though, and I like how it turned out!

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup brush for linework, the Soft air brush for shading, and the Burst spray paint brush and Toner Grit Fine 2 brush for background texture.

The Toner Grit brush is from the Fast Grit pack, by True Grit Texture Supply.

Inktober 2025 #11: Sting

An illustration of a bee stinging some flesh. The drawing is styled so that everything is very symmetrical and geometric. The bee is straight on from the viewer, with its stinger going into a white plane meant to be flesh. There is a large X at the point of the sting, and a single drop of blood is below it. The bee's legs are drawn disproportionately small to its body, and its wings are spread. The drawing is in black and white.

Originally, I was thinking about drawing the wrestler, Sting, for this Inktober illustration. But the closer I got to drawing time, the less I wanted to draw a human face. Which is okay, because I like how this turned out instead!

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Smooth Natural Nib brush for linework, and the Pin Liner 0.1 Pressure Spray brush for shading.

The Smooth Natural Nib is from the Rusty Nib pack and the Pin Liner brush is from the Stipple Studio pack, by True Grit Texture Supply.

Inktober 2025 #10: Sweep

An illustration of a game of Minesweeper, a classic computer game played on a grid in which the player flags and clears hidden mines. Many of the squares are cleared, with the remaining squares are blank, flagged, or showing a number, indicating the number of bombs in the adjacent squares. One square displays a face with x's for eyes, indicating that the player clicked a mine on accident and lost the game. A nearby square has a mine on it, showing a missed bomb. The drawing is made to look slightly weathered and is in black and white.

Today's Inktober prompt was "sweep". I dodged any sort of janitorial theme I might've been tempted to do and went straight for something much sillier: Minesweeper. 😵

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Inka brush for linework, and the Halftone Stamp 1 and Worn 4 Subtle brushes for additional texture.

Those last two brushed are from the Fast Grit pack by True Grit Texture Supply.

Inktober 2025 #9: Heavy

An illustration of a cartoon man trying to lift a large barbell weight. The man's back is arched backward and the bar between the large round weights is bending. His head is facing upward and all that is visible of his face is his nose, mustache, and gritted teeth. Two drops of sweat are coming out of his head. The man has a light complexion and is wearing a white tank top and dark pants. There is a burst of energy in the background behind the man, and the drawing is in black and white.

Today's Inktober prompt was "heavy", so... I drew a dude trying to lift something heavy!

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Rusty Nib 1 brush for linework, the Syrup brush for fills, and the Rough Dot Shader 45 Light brush for the halftone shading.

The Rusty Nib brush is from the Rusty Nib pack and the Rough Dot brush is from the Beat Tones pack, both by True Grit Texture Supply.

Inktober 2025 #8: Reckless

An illustration of a woman in a bathtub using her phone, which is plugged into a nearby outlet for charging. The woman looks slightly concerned. She has her knees tucked up to her chest, with her hands resting on them. The bathtub is filled with water and soapy bubbles are in the woman's hair and obscure her bottom half. The drawing is done in a flat style, with only very basic shading to indicate the dimensions of the tub, faucet, and outlet. A floor mat and a small shelf with soaps and shampoos can be faintly seen in the background, which is a dark gray. A burst of white spray paint is behind the woman, highlighting her head and phone. The drawing is in black and white.

Today's Inktober prompt - and the first drawing of week 2 of this project - was "reckless", and I spent a lot of time thinking about it during the day.

Ultimately, I ended up doing this because I felt like it was a modern, relatable thing. And also because I bet a lot of people have done this without thinking much about how absolutely dangerous it is! 😵

For some reason it felt like this illustration took a long time to create, but when I check the stats in Procreate, it's only an hour and 18 minutes. Maybe it was because it had some many overlapping layers I had to consider?

As always, this was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup brush for linework, and the Burst spray paint brush and Worn 1 Subtle brush for background texture.

That last brush is from the Fast Grit pack, by True Grit Texture Supply.

Inktober 2025 #7: Starfish

An illustration of Patrick Star from SpongeBob SquarePants laying on the beach on his back, with his arms and legs spread out and a happy look on his face. Patrick is a starfish, and he is wearing his signature shorts with a tropical flower pattern. The beach is speckled with spray paint splatter spots and has a faint floral pattern drawn over it. In the upper left, the ocean's foamy edge pushes in slightly. The drawing is in black and white.

Alright, I know this probably wasn't a unique idea, but I saw the prompt for today's Inktober drawing, "starfish", and there was pretty much no way I wasn't going to draw Patrick for it. 😆

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Studio Pen brush for linework, the Syrup brush for some touchups, the Soft air brush for shading, and the Splatter and Flicks spray paint brushes for texture.

Inktober 2025 #6: Pierce

An illustration of an elephant with a very pierced ear and eyebrow. The elephant is facing the viewer straight on, and is off center to the left, with its trunk hooking out of the view and coming back up on the right. The elephant is looking directly at the viewer with slightly closed eyes. It is dark gray and has large white tusks. The elephant's ear that is in view is covered in piercings, with plain metallic studs, small hoops, hanging chains, small jewels, and a coin on a hoop. The background is white and the drawing is in black and white.

Today's Inktober prompt was "pierce", and after bouncing a lot of silly ideas around in my head, I landed on a very silly one indeed: this much pierced elephant.

I enjoyed making it even though I'm not super jazzed with how it turned out. I much prefer drawing animals with more cartoon proportions, and this one just looks a bit weird to me.

Anyway, this was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Rusty Nib 1 brush for linework, the Gouache and Rough Dot Shader 45 Light brushes for shading, and the Worn 1 Subtle brush and Burst spray paint brush for texture. And also a small assist from the Syrup brush for fills.

The Rusty Nib brush is from the Rusty Nib pack, the Rough Dot Shader 45 Light is from the Beat Tones pack, and the Worn 1 Subtle brush is from the Fast Grit pack, all by True Grit Texture Supply.

Inktober 2025 #5: Deer

An illustration of a cartoon deer caught in a spotlight eating an ice cream cone. The deer's eyes are wide open, and it is staring at the viewer with its mouth slightly agape. It has a partly eaten ice cream cone in its hand, and it is wearing a coat and scarf. It has a small set of antlers on its head. The drawing is in black and white.

Today's Inktober prompt was "deer". I wanted to go for a "deer in the headlights" thing with this one, but ended up not doing a road, just making the deer look like he got caught doing something. I'm not sure why that something is eating an ice cream cone, but I like how it turned out. 😆

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Rusty Nib 1 brush for linework, and the Rough Dot Shader 45 Light brush for shading.

The Rusty Nib brush is from the Rusty Nib pack and the Rought Dot Shader brush is from the Beat Tones pack, both by True Grit Texture Supply.
