This is my sixteenth illustration for June Toons and marks the beginning of the second half of the project. I don't know what inspired me to draw this, but this one is of a big dude lifting a heavy box.

If I've learned anything from this project so far, it's that I really like utilizing outlines now, and I feel like they can often really give the art the pop that it needs at the end.

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching and the Syrup brush for everything else. If you watch the time-lapse, you'll also see that I attempted to get some spray paint brushes in there at one point near the end, but I thought the effect made the circle look too much like the moon, so I ended up not using them.

June Toons 2023 #15: Happy Fish

Martin · 323 days

Here's my fifteenth illustration for June Toons - a very happy fish, slurping a drink.

I had a lot of work to do today and my time for drawing ran a little thin, so I had to keep things simple. I do like where this ended up, though!

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup brush for everything else.

My fourteenth illustration for June Toons is a happy couple going camping. That's two weeks of cartoons down, and one more day to go for the halfway point in this project. That went by fast!

As usual, this was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup brush for everything else.

For this June Toons illustration, I followed a community-created prompt from @Curator@mastodon.art. The actual prompt was "Ostropus", but I thought I'd have more fun just drawing both animals together. Enjoy the highwire act!

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup brush for linework, and the Soft air paint brush for some light gradients.

My twelfth illustration for June Toons is of a bird and his worm: two inseparable best friends!

I wasn't really feeling this one once I started coloring it, but I saw it through. You'll see a lot of experimentation in the time-lapse, especially on the bird's shading and the background. Hopefully I'm feeling more inspired tomorrow!

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup brush for linework, the Soft air brush for shading, and the Decimals brush for additional texture.

June Toons 2023 #11: A Toadst!

Martin · 327 days

This is my eleventh illustration for June Toons. I guess I'm continuing the theme of, uh, drinking stuff with this one?

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup brush for everything else. If you watch the time-lapse, you will see some experimentation with the Flicks spray paint brush and the Inka brush in there too, but they didn't stick this time.

My tenth illustration for June Toons is a wrestler chugging an energy drink!

I barely made it under the wire with this one! I sketched it and got the lines down earlier in the day, but didn't have time to color it until late, and ended up getting into a lot of detail with it. I like how it turned out though!

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup brush for linework, the Soft air brush for gradients, and the Splatter spray paint brush for background texture.

This is my ninth illustration for June Toons: The Wild West! Like so many of these things, it took me a long time to figure out where to start. I almost just drew the tissue box on my desk ("toons" don't have to all be characters, right? 😅) but then had an idea about one character looking sharply down at another. It turned out better than I expected, though I don't really like the way the lower guy squishes down... but oh, well.

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup brush for everything else.

June Toons 2023 #8: Angry Horse

Martin · 330 days

For today's June Toons illustration, the start of the second week, I wanted to do something a bit more basic - so here's an angry horse!

I don't really draw horses much, so this turned out pretty good in my opinion. Heavily (and probably obviously) influenced by Ren & Stimpy.

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup brush for linework, and the Soft air brush and Splatter and Flicks spray paint brushes for background texture.

This is my seventh illustration for June Toons, "To The Moon!"

I'm happy with how this one turned out, but a week into this project, I am still really having a hard time breaking away from my usual cartoon style and drawing a little bit looser... I almost started this sketch over again after getting it done because I wanted the boy to look more stylized. I think it will just take more time/practice, as all things do.

As usual, this was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup brush for linework, and the Soft air brush for some depth.
