Inktober 2023 #22: Scratchy

Martin · 1 year

This is my twenty-second illustration for Inktober, for the prompt "scratchy".

I didn't have much time to work today, so had to do something a bit basic. Plus, I didn't really like the prompt. Just how it goes, unfortunately!

As usual, this was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Inka brush for linework, the Medium Nozzle spray paint brush for shading, and the Splatter and Flicks spray paint brushes for background texture.

Inktober 2023 #21: Chains

Martin · 1 year

Today's Inktober prompt was "chains", so for my illustration, I drew a ubiquitous coffee chain. If you're driving and you miss one, just hit the next! β˜•

That's three weeks down for Inktober, by the way - it's going by so fast this year!

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup brush for linework, and the Medium Nozzle spray paint brush for shading and texture.

Inktober 2023 #20: Frost

Martin · 1 year

This is my drawing for today's Inktober. The prompt was "frost". This one took me about 2 hours to complete, and I spent all but about 5 minutes doing everything but the frost. I'm happy the effect looks okay and that the window didn't need a lot of work because I didn't really think about it much until the end. 😬

Not really sure how I feel about it overall. It turned out close to how I envisioned it, but I had sort of hoped to have it look a little more gray/mysterious. And I didn't have the guts to try to add falling snow to it. Oh well!

As always, this was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Inka brush for shapes and linework, and the Medium Nozzle spray paint brush and Soft air brush for shading/texture.

Inktober 2023 #19: Plump

Martin · 1 year

Today's Inktober prompt is "plump", and while I was brainstorming what to do, I came across another drawing challenge that had "happy capybara" as the subject. It felt like a natural fit, so I went for it. Here's a happy capybara! πŸ˜„

Inktober 2023 #18: Saddle

Martin · 1 year

Here's my Inktober illustration for today's prompt, "saddle".

I struggled a bit with this one, because I just couldn't think of anything fun to do. Eventually I settled on drawing a dude on a mechanical horse, but I didn't have a plan beyond that. I like how things came together, and I am digging the way the textured Medium Nozzle spray paint brush can easily make things look mysteriously foggy.

Also, I was hesitant to put a rocket on the back of the horse, because I know it looks like a giant, gaping butthole in the sketch. But I stand by my decision. 😎

Inktober 2023 #17: Demon

Martin · 1 year

Here's my take on today's Inktober prompt, "demon".

After yesterday's "angel" I wanted to do something less realistic and a little more fun. This little guy just wants to get up to some mischief! This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup and Inka brushes for linework, and the Medium Nozzle spray paint brush for shading/texture.

Inktober 2023 #16: Angel

Martin · 1 year

Today's Inktober illustration is for the prompt "Angel". I feel like I could've employed a whole bunch of stuff from all the art history classes I took with this one - but instead I drew this! πŸ˜…

As always, this was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup and Inka brushes for linework and blocking out shapes, and the Medium Nozzle spray paint brush for shading/texture.

The comic style for this one was heavily inspired by the art of Buğra Batuhan Berah.

The photo I used as a reference for this drawing is from SketchDaily.

Inktober 2023 #15: Dagger

Martin · 1 year

I decided to lean into Halloween for today's Inktober illustration, this one for the prompt "dagger". πŸŽƒ

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup, Inka, and (a modified version of the) Mercury brushes for linework and blocking out shapes, the Medium Nozzle spray paint brush and Soft airbrush for shading, and the Splatter and Flicks spray paint brushes for added texture.

Inktober 2023 #14: Castle

Martin · 1 year

Today's Inktober prompt was "castle" and, well, I didn't really feel like drawing a castle. My wife suggested doing something like a kid's pillow fort, and that gave me this idea: a kid sitting in his bedsheet fort, staying up late and reading a good book.

By the way, that's two weeks of Inktober done already - this project is flying by! 😎

As always, this was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Inka brush for linework, and the Medium Nozzle spray paint brush and Soft airbrush for shading/texture.

Inktober 2023 #13: Rise

Martin · 1 year

I usually struggle with these action-word Inktober prompts, but for this one I had an idea right from the start. The prompt today is "rise", and so I drew some massive stone hands rising from the ground.

My iPad got weirdly warm while I was working on this one!
