Drawrch 2024 #27: Paint

An illustration of a man looking to the right. The man has a light complexion, dark eyes, and bleached red/orange hair that is dark at the roots. His hair is being blown up and backward, and his mouth is slightly agape. He has bits of blue-green paint all over his neck and face, and he is wearing a blue shirt. The background is a blue of bright outdoor colors, but mostly turquoise and green. The man is drawn in a partial comic book style, and a lot of the shading is accomplished via halftone patterns in various colors.

Here's today's Drawrch illustration - a man covered in paint!

When I picked out the reference photo foir this one, I thought the guy in the picture was just having colored light bouncing onto his skin. When I actually sat down to draw it, however, I realized that he also seems to be covered in bits of paint here and there. I have no idea why.

This drawing was kind of an experiment and is a mashup of a bunch of different styles/techniques that I have used in other drawings in this series. It mostly works though, and I think I am getting some good practice in with the halftone shading.

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Inka brush for some underlying linework, the Soft air brush for shading, the Hard air brush for the very faint background Bokeh effect. Additionally, I used two brushes from True Grit Texture Supply: the Smooth Natural Nib brush from The Rusty Nib pack, and the Rough Dot Shader 45deg/light brush for the halftone pattern from the Beat Tones pack.

The photo I used as a reference for this drawing is from SketchDaily.
