Inktober 2026 #14: Lady

Martin · 9 hours (10:30 PM · Oct 14, 2026)
A black and white illustration of a stylized, cartoonish woman in a form-fitting retro space suit, sitting on a tiny crescent moon and holding her hand out, with a star hovering over her open palm. The woman has a pale complexion and short black hair. She is leaning back slightly and is smiling with her eyes closed. One of her legs is bent and the other is kicking out away from her. She is wearing a space suit with a fish-bowl helmet that has an antenna on top, along with gloves, boots, and belt. The small moon she is sitting on is pocked with craters. Behind the woman is a dark, tilted ellipse with lighter gray paint splatters and a number of stars over it and coming off the edges. The background is white.

I wasn't quite sure what to do for today's Inktober prompt, "lady". I might've done Lady Godiva, but I saw another artist's take on that last night as the first illustrations for the prompt started rolling in and didn't want to be too same-y.

So I spent some time deliberating in front of my empty canvas and eventually landed on the idea of doing a riff on the old space girl pin-up posters from decades ago.

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Inka brush for linework, the gouache brush for shading, and the Burst and Flicks spray paint brushes for texture. I also used the Syrup brush a bit to make some of the smaller fills easier.

If you'd like to see how I drew this one, you can watch the time-lapse below:
