Here's today's Februdoodle illustration!

More adventures in trying to keep things a little loose and not getting caught up in how perfect/geometric everything is. And what better subject for that than a street? It sounds like a joke, but in reality, streets are very imperfect, and drawing them that way makes them look more realistic. I still hate drawing cars, though...

Anyway, this was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching and the Inka brush for everything else.

Just under the wire, here's my eighth illustration for Februdoodle!

I've been watching a lot of Curious George - it's my son's favorite TV show right now - and I've grown to love that cartoon. The animation is good, the voice acting is great, the stories are fun, and there are a lot of silly jokes. But one thing my wife pointed out is that every time they show George sleeping in his bed, he looks super comfy, and now I always notice it too. And envy it a little! 😆

So anyway, I was feeling inspired by that, and wanted to draw a big ol' bear having a good rest today. I meant for it to be something kind of simple, and as usual, got a little carried away with it. I'm really happy with how it turned out though!

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup brush for linework, and the Soft airbrush for a few bits of light shading.

Here's my seventh Februdoodle illustration for this year! That marks the end of the first week already - yikes!

This one was inspired by a craft project my son did at a local art museum. I have it hanging on the wall of my office, and with all the rain happening here lately, I thought it'd be fun to see it in use. Of course, a little magic is involved with artifacts like this! 😉

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Inka brush for linework, the Soft air brush for some slight shading, and the Splatter and Flicks spray paint brushes for background texture.

Februdoodle 2024 #6: Migraine

Martin · 100 days

I thought I was going to get my Februdoodle drawing done earlier, but I had a migraine and was having a hard time working... so here's my slightly late, headache-inspired drawing for today. 😵‍💫

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup brush for linework, the Inka brush for additional rough lines, and the Splatter and Flicks spray paint brushes for background texture.

Februdoodle 2024 #5: Aftermath

Martin · 101 days

Here's my fifth illustration for Februdoodle!

Yesterday there was a massive windstorm here, and this morning my son and I walked around the neighborhood observing the aftermath. Branches were everywhere, along with downed garbage cans, shingles, and other various debris. At least three fences were blown over, one massive tree was completely toppled, and one of my neighbors' roof got torn partly off!

So this drawing was inspired by all that. Hopefully it doesn't happen again anytime soon!

Today's Februdoodle was an idea that popped into my head last night: an artist and his child working side by side. I didn't think about the idea of leaving one canvas black until I started working on it, but I really like the idea of the child having less trouble just getting started on something. Especially as many of these illustrations start with me staring at a blank canvas for a long time.

Februdoodle 2024 #3: Mailbox

Martin · 102 days

Today's Februdoodle is a little late, so I didn't have that much time to think about what I might do, let alone to work on it. Still, I like how it turned out, though I do feel like it's missing something in the background. Oh well!

I was mildly inspired by the mailbox monster from the original Toejam & Earl game, and also from the mimic monsters found in various fantasy movies and games.

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup brush for linework, and the Hartz brushe for background texture.

Februdoodle 2024 #2: Hamburger

Martin · 104 days

I had a hamburger for lunch today, so I thought I'd draw one for Februdoodle. I'm glad this didn't happen at the restaurant! 😆

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup brush for linework, and the Soft airbrush for gradients.

An illustration of a smiling cartoon poodle enthusiastically giving a thumbs up. The word "Februdoodle" is drawn in a lively font below. The letters are yellow and orange, and the poodle is a blue-ish gray with puffy, very pale blue fur.

Last year I started an illustration project in February called "Februdoodle", and I am continuing it this year! Each day I create a new a new doodle and post it online. No theme or stories, just (hopefully) fun.

My first Februdoodle drawing for 2024 is a Februdoodle Poodle. Maybe he can be the mascot? 😆

This was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup brush for linework, and the Fat Nozzle, Splatter, and Flicks spray paint brushes for background texture.

Inktober 2023 #31: Fire

Martin · 198 days

Here it is - my last drawing for Inktober 2023! The prompt for this one was "fire", and after really trying to come up with something fun, I landed on this.

I'm almost certain that I've done a dumpster fire illustration for a past project, but I need to get this one done and found a neat way to tie it into this year's Inktober set. Can you find it?

I had a great time doing this project. Thanks to everyone who has been following along throughout - I hope you've enjoyed watching it as much as I have making it. 😄 As always, this was created in Procreate with an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using the Procreate Pencil brush for sketching, the Syrup and Inka brushes for linework, and the Hartz brush for background texture.
